Love Eggs Explained: A UK Guide to Vibrating, Remote and Kegel Eggs

Love eggs are one of the easiest toys to fall for. They're small, simple to use and surprisingly versatile, whether you want a little buzz on your own, a playful remote for date night or a gentle way to work on your pelvic floor. This guide explains the different types, how to use them, how to look after them, and the love eggs and Kegel balls we'd pick from our range right now.

What is a love egg?

A love egg is a small, smooth, egg-shaped toy that's worn internally, usually with a soft tail or cord to help you remove it. Most vibrate, and many come with a wireless remote so you (or a partner) can change the settings without reaching for the toy. You'll also see Kegel balls and Ben Wa balls in the same family. These usually don't vibrate at all. Instead, they're weighted to give your pelvic floor muscles something to grip.

The main types of love egg

Vibrating love eggs

A vibrating egg gives you internal vibration in a compact shape. Many can also be held against the body for external play, so one toy covers quite a lot of ground. If you're new to vibrators in general, our beginner's guide to sex toys is a good place to start.

Remote-control love eggs

This is where love eggs really come into their own. A wireless remote lets you play hands-free, and handing it to a partner adds a fun element of surprise. Remotes on the eggs we stock typically work from a few metres away, so they're great for play around the home.

App-controlled love eggs

Some eggs connect to a phone app instead of a remote. Depending on the toy, a partner can control it from their own phone, even from somewhere else entirely, which makes them a favourite for long-distance couples.

Kegel balls and weighted training sets

Kegel balls are about muscle training rather than vibration. Sets that come with several weights let you start light and move up gradually as your muscles get stronger, a bit like going up a dumbbell size at the gym.

How to use a love egg

Love eggs are very straightforward, but a few tips make the first time more comfortable.

  • Charge it first. Most vibrating eggs are USB rechargeable, so give yours a full charge before you start. Check whether the remote needs a battery, as some take a single AAA.
  • Use plenty of lube. A water-based lube is the safe choice with silicone toys and makes insertion much easier. You'll find lubes in our essentials range.
  • Relax and take your time. Insert the egg gently, leaving the tail or cord on the outside so you can remove it easily.
  • Start low. Begin on the gentlest setting and work up once you know what you like.
  • Remove it gently. Hold the base of the tail or cord and ease the egg out slowly. Don't tug.

Love eggs and your pelvic floor

Many people use Kegel balls as part of a regular pelvic floor routine. Start with the lightest weight for short sessions, and only move up when it feels easy. If you're pregnant, have recently given birth, have had surgery or have any pelvic health concerns, it's worth checking with your GP or a women's health physiotherapist before you start.

Cleaning and caring for your love egg

Clean your egg before and after every use with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner, then pat it dry fully before storing it in a pouch or bag. Only submerge an egg if it's described as waterproof, and keep the charging port dry. Stick to water-based lube with silicone toys. Love eggs FAQ

Are love eggs good for beginners?

Yes. They're small, simple to use and usually have easy controls, which makes them a relaxed first toy. A remote-control egg with a gentle lowest setting is a great place to start.

Can I wear a love egg outside the house?

Some people do, but we'd recommend getting to know your egg at home first. Remotes have a limited range, so check the product page to see how far yours will reach.

What's the difference between a love egg and Kegel balls?

Love eggs are usually made for pleasure and most of them vibrate. Kegel balls are weighted and designed to help you exercise your pelvic floor muscles, and usually don't vibrate.

Can I use a love egg in the bath?

Only if it's described as waterproof on the product page. The Mina, Tabooboo and Svakom Ella Neo eggs in our picks above are all listed as waterproof.

Can I return a love egg if it isn't right for me?

You have 14 days to cancel under UK consumer law. For hygiene reasons, intimate products that arrive sealed can only be returned if the seal and packaging haven't been opened, unless they're faulty. Full details are on our FAQ page.

I still have questions. Who can I ask?

Email us at sales@tootyfruit.com. We'll reply discreetly and in confidence.
